Wing Commander W E Waite MBE

Starting out as a Sabre pilot in Germany, Bill completed 189 Flying Instructors Course in November 1957 winning the CFS Trophy. On promotion to Squadron Leader in the early 1960s, Bill commanded No1 Squadron of 7 FTS at RAF Church Fenton. (See Photo Below). Before joining the CFS staff he completed a secondment to to Royal Malaysian Air Force based in Kuala Lumpur.

A long time member of the CFSA, Bill will be remembered by generations of student QFIs as the CGI at Little Rissington in the late 1960s and on promotion he remained on the staff until 1973. During that time he flew the Meteor as part of the Vintage Pair. Before retiring in 1976 Bill was the CO of RAF Kemble, home at the time of the Red Arrows. In civilian life Bill's flying career continued with British Aerospace in Saudi Arabia.
